Candidates had difficulty in:

1. stating the functions of the surface planer;
2. identifying outfeed and infeed tables on the surface planer;
3. differentiating between push block (used on the surface planer) and push stick (used on the circular saw);
4. naming defects associated with timber conversion;
5. stating the use of a jig.

To overcome these weaknesses schools should emphasise on these areas using appropriate simulation materials.
