Candidates had difficulty in:
                        
                          - stating the functions of the  surface planer;
- identifying outfeed and infeed  tables on the surface planer;
- differentiating between push  block (used on the surface planer) and push stick (used on the circular saw);
- naming defects associated with  timber conversion;
- stating the use of a jig.
To overcome  these weaknesses schools should emphasise on these areas using appropriate  simulation materials.
