Question 1

(a)   Identify specimens A, B and C.              [3 marks]
(b) In a tabular form, compare three physical characteristics of specimens A and B.           [6 marks]
(c)   (i)      Which of specimens  A and B would you recommend for pond construction?
        (ii)     Give one reason for your answer in 1(c)(i).                                          [2 marks]
(d)   List two ways of improving specimen A for crop production.                      [2 marks]
(e)   State two ways by which specimen C is of economic importance in agriculture.        [2 marks]

OBSERVATION
 

This question was well attempted by the candidates.  In question 1(a), majority of the candidates were able to identify specimens A (Sandy soil), B (Clay soil) and C (Earthworm).  Also, in question 1(b), most of the candidates could compare the physical properties of specimens A and B in a tabular form.  In question 1(c)(i and ii), many candidates could recommend specimen B (Clay soil) for pond construction and give reason for the recommendation.  In questions 1(d) and (e), majority of the candidates were able to list ways of improving specimen A (Sandy soil) for crop production and ways by which specimen C (Earthworm) is of economic importance in agriculture.
