Question 2

(a)        Connect the circuit as shown in fig 3 and set R1 to 250Ώ.
(b)        Ask the supervisor to check the circuit.
(c)        Close switch S.
(d)        Read and record the voltmeter readings, V1 and Vx with R1 set at 250Ώ.
(e)        Repeat step (d) with R1 set at 50Ώ.
(f)         Calculate the ratio with V1 for each reading.
                                                  Vx
(g)       Tabulate your result as shown in Table 2.

OBSERVATION

 The candidates were required to
(i)      connect the circuit as shown and take voltage drops at 250Ω and 50Ω resistance           values;
(ii)     calculate the current flowing through resistors R1 and Rx for the corresponding
voltage drop analogous to fig 1.

The expected answers were

   R1(Ώ)

V1(V)

   Vx(V)

   V1
   Vx

    250

 7.50

    4.50

1.6667

     50

 3.00

    9.00

0.3333

The candidates understood the task.  They connected the circuit and obtained readings but many of the readings and units were wrong.
