(a) Sketch each of the following traps used in plumbing works:
(i) P-trap;
(ii) S-trap.

(b) State the function of each of the following:
(i) baffle wall in a septic tank;
(ii) benching in a manhole;
(iii) soakaway chamber in a septic tank.

(c) List four factors to be considered when selecting a floor finish
(i) Reproduce the sketch and show details of steel reinforcements in the slab and beams.
(ii) Label any four parts.

Observation

Few candidates were able to:
- sketch the given types of trap used in plumbing works;
- state the function of baffle wall in a septic tank; However, majority of them were unable to state the function of: - benching in a manhole;
- soakaway chamber in a septic tank The expected response to question 5 is as given below:

(C) Factors to be considered when selecting a floor finish are:
(1) Resistance to wear.
(2) Ease of cleaning.
(3) Resistance to grease and oil.
(4) Resistance to water.
(5) Warmth/comfort.
(6) Resistance to noise.
(7) Resistance to indentation.
(8) Cost of constructing the floor.
(9) Ease of placing.
(10) Appearance.
(11) Durability.
