Most candidates were able to describe the procedures for establishing a 90° angle between the side line and the building line using the 3:4:5 method;

However, they were unable to sketch the pictorial view of the type of profile to be erected along line AB at position D to establish wall line along DC.

The expected response to question 2 is given below:

            3:4:5 method:

1. with the measuring tape, measure 3 units from D to C1
2. measure again 4 units from D to B1
3. measure the diagonal distance between B and C1, to read, 5 units to establish the 90° angle between the building line CD.

                                    -           apply mould oil or water to the formwork surface for ease of
                                                striking;
-           provide spacer blocks to raise the steel reinforcement from the wood surface;
                                    -           position the steel reinforcement;
                                    -           pour concrete into the formwork and compact;
                                    -           work the surface to the required finish;
                                    -           cure the concrete.
