The candidate was required to write an article for publication in a national newspaper on
the high cost of living. He was also expected to give, at least, three suggestions which
the government could use to tackle the problem. This was not a popular question and
many of the candidates who attempted it did not show clear understanding of the term
"cost of living". Some candidates dwelt on suggestions to minimize people's suffering
through the provision of basic amenities.
