The weaknesses of the candidates as revealed in their scripts were:
(1) Inability to cover the syllabus: Many candidates did not cover the syllabus especially in the area of scale conversion, map reduction, surveying and statistical mapping as shown in their scripts. Schools should be encouraged to cover all aspects of the syllabus before the commencement of the examination.
(2) Poor Performance in Practical Geography: Many candidates performed poorly in map reading and interpretation as well as in surveying. The candidates could not describe the surveyor’s chain.
Practical aspects of the syllabus should be emphasized by schools. The teaching of mathematical aspects of the syllabus should also be carefully handled.
(3) Poor Expression: Some candidates could not express themselves in good English. This could be improve by constant reading of textbooks, novels and magazines. |
