Observation

Only a few among the candidates that attempted this question performed fairly, while a good number merely repeated the rhythmic pattern of the given phrase in (i) and many of these candidates did not understand how to modulate into any key; dominant, subdominant or relative minor relations. In setting a text to a suitable melody as required in (ii), some candidates plagiarised hymn tunes and other songs without paying attention to alignment of the text with the notes as required. Generally, candidates manifested poor knowledge of the requirements of this question, thereby loosing most of the obtainable marks.
