    • State four ways in which the ancient Olympic Games is similar to the modern Olympic games.                                                                                            [8 marks]
    • Give two reasons why combative sports are not regarded as recreational activities.                                                                                                                            [2 marks]

Observation

Few candidates attempted this question and the candidates’ performance was poor.  In part (a) candidates wrote wrong answers such as they worshipped their gods, it brings out the spirit of competition, development of socio-economic traits and their actions per peculiar country.  In part (b), most candidates could not write anything while some candidates stated that combative sports is a major activity and not minor or that they deal with implements and other sporting materials. 

However, the correct answers were as follows:

(1) Game was terminated with ceremonial   breakfast

   Each game is often ended with

Athletes who violated the rules are also disqualified  and banned                

(8) Winners were given Olive branches reward/Recognition by the state

         -      inflict bodily pain/injuries
        -      are naturally rough/dangerous
        -      encourage aggression
        -      involve highly specialized skills
        -      emphasize rules and regulations.
