Question 3

In an electrolysis experiment, the ammeter records a steady current of 1A. The mass of copper deposited in 30 minutes is 0.66g. Calculate the error in the ammeter reading. [ Electrochemical equivalent of copper = 0.00033g C-1]

Observation

This question  was well attempted by majority of the candidates., though a few candidates applied the  wrong formula and some stopped the arithmetic at 1.11A instead of 1.111A.  A Few others failed to subtract the given value from the calculated value  to arrive at the error required of them.  Generally performance was above average .
The expected answer is
Mass deposited, m = zIt
                                  OR
                   I   =
                        =
                         =  1.111A
                      Error  =   1.111 – 1

                                 =  0.111A
