Question 1

(a)        The figure below is a square pyramid truncated as shown.  Draw, in first angle projection, the

  1. given view;
  2. complete plan;
  3. end view in the direction of arrow Q.

(b)        (i)         Construct a locus using the following data:
         Eccentricity                         =     1
        Focal point from diretrix    =      22
        Span                                    =        100

Name the curve obtained in 1(b)(i)

OBSERVATION

Question 1(a) required projecting lines from the given front elevation to draw the plan and then projecting from the front and plan views to obtain the end elevation.  The key ingredient is the ability to visualize the object being drawn.  The required solution is given below:

Some of the candidates who did not get the question were those who started from views other than the given front elevation.

Question 1(b) required taking corresponding dimensions along the axis from the focal point to get the curve.  Therefore, the first step is to draw the axes and locate the point of the required curve using the information provided.

The required solution is given below.  Most of the candidates got the solution correctly.
