OBSERVATION

This question was fairly attempted by the candidates.  In 5(a-b), most of the candidates were able to define the term parasite and mention the signs that could be noticed in a sick goat.  However, most of the candidates were unable to discuss the anthrax disease under causative organisms and modes of transmission but most of them were able to discuss the disease under animals affected and symptoms as required in 5c(i-iii) and 5(c)(ii-iv) respectively.  More so, majority of them could not draw and label the reproductive tract of a hen as required in 5(d).

The expected answers include:

  (c)      Discussion on anthrax disease
            (i)         Causative organism
                        -           Bacillus anthracis

            (iii)       Modes of transmission
                          -         Ingestion of contaminated feeds
                          -         Inhalation of spores
                          -        Drinking of contaminated water
  -         Open wounds/body contact
                          -         Contaminated soil
                          -         Contaminated equipment e.g. feeder, drinker etc.
                          -         Vector/flies/rats/birds etc.
