Foods and Nutrition Paper 2, May/June 2015

Candidates' Weakness

Most of the candidates were very weak in questions 1a, 3b, 3c and 6. Question 1a was on the reasons for carrying out cookery processes which include addition of lime/ lemon juice to fresh fish, whisking egg over a bowl of warm water and proofing of dough in bread making. Questions 3b and 3c were on the instances necessary for fruits to be cooked and question 6 was on the points to consider when determining the quality of canned foods. Candidates that attempted these questions were unable to give correct answers. Also, majority of the candidates were unable to express their ideas, they made spelling mistakes and did not answer each question on new pages.

To overcome these weaknesses, parents and school should provide textbooks for students; teachers should teach students how to answer questions and students should be encouraged to study more.
