Weakness and Remedies

 

Candidates’ weaknesses include their inability to:

  • spell scientific and technical words correctly;
  • write in simple English Language;
  • accurately calculate percentage of population required in Questions 2(a) and 2(b) ;
  • state in sequence, the stages in the life cycle of housefly;
  • accurately name the labeled parts of the Skin;
  • mention diseases that could be associated with the oral cavity;
  • mention the intermediate host of Guinea worm.

 

The following remedies were suggested to overcome these weaknesses:

  • teachers should endeavour to use instructional materials especially when teaching aspects that have diagrams in health education;
  • teachers should recommend textbooks that coversa wide range of the syllabus for students;
  • students should be encouraged to cultivate habit of seriousness with their studies when in school;
  • government should recruit more qualified health education teachers;
  • principals/school administrators should assign the teaching of health education to qualified graduates of health education;
  • teachers should endeavour to get previous marking schemes in teaching the students what is expected of them during examination;
  • teachers and principals should always participate in WASSCE coordination and marking exercise so as to update their knowledge on relevant areas;
  • teachers and school administrators should always consult the WASSCE Chief Examiners Reports for various diets of examinations so as to keep abreast of requirements in answering examination questions.
