  The points X, Y and Z are located such that Y is 15 km south of X, Z is 20 km from X on a bearing of 270. Calculate, correct to:

  1. two significant figures, |YZ|;
  2. the nearest degree, the bearing of Y from Z.

The Chief Examiner reported that this question was unpopular among candidates.
In part(a), a good percentage of candidates that attempted it could not apply the pyhagoras theorems where necessary and in part(b), some candidates’ were able to apply the
trigonometry ratio correctly. However a good number of them could not get the trigonometry ratio correctly.
