Alternative B

Question 1B

(b)        (i)         State Archimede’s principle.
(ii)        A body hs a mass of 60 g when immersed in water, 61 g when immersed in water with floatable object attached to it. If the total mass of the floatable object and the body when both of them are immersed in water is 59 g, determine the relative density of the floatable object.

Observation

Part (b) Few candidates attempted this question and some candidates that attempted it could not obtain complete table of values. The acceptable precautions were stated in clear language

The expected response:

         (b)           (i)         Archimedes Principle
It states that, when a body is fully or partially immersed in a fluid,
it experiences an upthrust which is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced.

         (ii)           R.D =  l = l

                               =  l

                             = k = 0.5
