Observation

Candidates’ performance in this question was good. However, some of the candidates could not satisfactorily state operations and the precautions needed in aluminium repair, as contained in 3(a) and 3(b).

The solution of the poorly answered part of the question is given below.

(a)      Operations Involved in Repair of Damaged Aluminium Auto Body Panel
-  Wash and Clean the panel to be worked upon
- Roughening out damaged section of the panel
- Mixing the plastic filler with hardener
- Grinding to finish
- Applying the filler

(b)      Precautions Observed When Cutting Aluminium Panel
-   Use tools dedicated for aluminum alone
-   The panel must be fully supported at both ends.
-   Reciprocating saw should be used for cutting the panel.
-   The blade used on the panel should be a little coarse.
-   Appropriate cutting speed should be observed.
-   Use of appropriate workshop wears.
