Candidates' Weakness

Candidates were unable to:

  • state the observations of an illustrated experiment (determination of presence of living organisms in soil);
  • state the conclusion that would be drawn from an illustrated experiment (determination of presence of living organisms in soil)
  • spell budding correctly;
  • enumerate the advantages of budding;
  • spell comb and wattle correctly;
  • state the precautions that should be taken when carrying out debeaking;
  • name bacterial diseases of chicken;
  • name the methods of compost making illustrated by diagrams;
  • recommend a method of compost making in high rainfall areas with reason;
  • state the roles of urine, animal dung and water in compost making;
  • give reasons for turning compost materials during preparation;
  • state the use of the tester in compost making;
  • state the reason why freshly prepared compost should not be applied to crops.

Based on the observed weaknesses, the Chief Examiners recommended as follow:

  • Aspects of the syllabus such as experiments on soil components and analysis, soil fertility as well as crop production amongst others should be emphasized;
  •  

  • Only competent graduates of Agricultural Science/Agriculture should be saddled with the responsibility of teaching the subject in Senior Secondary Schools.
