CANDIDATES’ WEAKNESSES AND SUGGESTED REMEDIES
The candidates were unable to:
- state the aim of the capillarity experiment;
- outline the procedure for carrying out capillarity experiment;
- identify the labelled parts of the disc ridger;
- state the functions of the labelled parts of the disc ridger;
- give the botanical names of goat weed and spear grass;
- give reasons why spear grass is difficult to eradicate on the farm;
- mention ways in which goat weed is of economic importance in agriculture;
- state the effects of the exclusion of oyster shell and bone meal in the diet of chicks;
- perform simple mathematical calculations on feed formulation;
- spell botanical names and agricultural terms correctly;
- convey ideas in correct sentences.
Based on the observed weaknesses, the Chief Examiners recommended as follows:
- Candidates should embark on visits to agricultural farms;
- There should be intensive self-study and revision before examination;
- Hands-on practical exposure is advocated;
- Candidates should be exposed to technical terms and botanical names used in agriculture;
- Improved reading culture among candidates is advocated;
