Weakness and Remedies

The candidates were unable to:

• write the chemical formula of sulphate of ammonia;
• name other fertilizers that contain the same active ingredient as sulphate of ammonia;
• perform calculations on fertilizer requirement on the maize farm;
• identify mulching as a management practice in crop production;
• name plant materials that could be used as mulch;
• state the advantages of shading, staking and mulching;
• name the parts of tick;
• mention diseases in farm animals transmitted by ticks.

                 
Based on the observed weaknesses, the Chief Examiners recommended as follows:

•        Candidates should embark on visits to agricultural farms;
• There should be intensive self-study and revision before examination;
• Hands-on practical exposure is advocated;
• Improved reading culture among candidates is advocated.
