((a) Define the following terms
(i) Magnetic field;
(ii) Magnetizing force.
((b)A straight conductor of length 60 cm in a magnetic field is moved at a velocity of 10 ms·1 perpendicular to a magnetic field of flux density 0.2 T.
Calculate the e.m.f induced in the conductor.
The expected answers were:
((a) (i) Magnetic field - is the space/area/region around a magnetic within which the magnetic effect can be felt.
(ii) Magnetising force is the magneto motive force per metre length of the flux path
( (b) E = Blv
Where I = 60cm = 0.6m
E = 0.2 x 0.6 x 10
E = 1.2 volts
This question was on magnetic field. Not many candidates could give the required definition correctly.
Some candidates had difficulty in recalling the formula to use, but on the whole, a good number, who were able to quote the mathematical expression correctly, solved the problem with ease.
