Candidates’ Weakness
Some candidates limited their answers to recall when the question asked for definitions or explanations. Some candidates do not read questions carefully enough. Key words are often missed, with candidates seemingly answering the question they would like to answer rather than the actual question on the examination paper.
Suggested Remedies
It was suggested that to correct these shortcomings:The delivery of Applied Electricity should include instruction on concepts, terminologies and techniques and should also follow the vocational philosophy of learning by doing and by studying what is happening in the real world.
Teachers should ensure their questions are differentiated according to the skill being tested and the level of understanding, analysis, reasoning etc. required by the question.
