- Set the multimeter to current range and do the following:
(i) connect the multimeter in series with the battery;
(ii) read and record in your answer booklet, the battery drain.
- Select a low voltage scale on the multimeter and do the following:
(i) connect the negative lead of the multimeter to the negative terminal of the battery and the positive lead of the multimeter to the top of the battery case to measure the battery discharge;
(ii) read and record in your answer booklet, the multimeter reading. |

The candidates were expected to make the connections as directed in Que. 2, read and record in their answer booklets the battery drain and the battery post voltage.
The expected answers were:
(a) (i) Connection of the multimeter in series with the battery
(ii) The battery drain of the battery is lower than 25 mA.
Note: If the ammeter reading is between 25 – 50 mA, something is using up the battery power.
(b)(i) Connection of the multimeter terminals to the respective lead of the battery
(ii) The battery post voltage as displayed by the multimeter should be at least 12.0 V and as high as 13.8 V.
As reported, majority of the candidates who attempted this question did very well. |
