Question 1 was a popular question among the candidates and those candidates who attempted the question
performed fairly well. Most candidates could state the components of the axial and appendicular
skeletons but quite a number of candidates lost marks due to spelling errors e.g. some candidates wrote
skill instead of skull and force limbs instead of fore limbs, a good number of candidates could not spell
the sternum and vertebral column correctly.
In stating the functions of the axial and appendicular skeletons most candidates could correctly state most
of the functions however, only a few candidates stated that the skeletons serve for storage of certain
minerals and so most candidates could not score the full marks.
Many candidates could correctly state the importance of calcium and iron supplements to a pregnant
woman but most of the candidates omitted to include that calcium intake aids muscle contraction during
labour. Most candidates could state the vitamin associated with absorption of calcium namely vitamin D
and could correctly state the sources and deficiency symptoms but lost marks due to spelling errors
