Three functional requirements of a roof are:
- stability;
- strength;
- weather resistance or exclusion of wind, sun or rain;
- durability;
- fire resistance;
- thermal insulation;

(b) Materials used for roof covering are:
- thatch;
- galvanised corrugated iron sheets;
- corrugated asbestos cement sheet;
- corrugated aluminium sheet;
