Observation

This question attracted few candidates and it was noticed that out of the candidates that attempted this question, many of them could not point out the relationship between faith and work.
The part B was better answered by the candidates in that they guessed the answers using the residual knowledge they have about faith and works from probably, Sunday school teachings and sermons. On the whole, this question was not popular and candidates who attempted this question performed below average. In the A Part, expected points required from candidates are given in a detailed structure below:

1. James outlined the fact that a person gains no profit by merely claiming to have faith but not works.
2. Genuine faith is evidenced by works. He called on Christians to be doers of the word and not deceive themselves as men of faith, by not doing what they professed.
3. Thus faith without works is dead.
4. Faith is expressed in practical works like charity/caring for the sick, widows, orphans etc.
5. Faith  and  works  are inseparable  for, you cannot  show  me  your  faith without  works.
6. A person is justified by works and not by faith alone. For works is the finality of faith.
7. James  taught  that  people  who have belief   in God  without expressing it  in actions to  justify  their  faith  are  not different  from  the  devil.
8. For the devil also believes in God but does not do God’s work.
9. James argued that if Christians are mere hearers, they are like a man who observe his face in a mirror, but as soon as he goes away, forgets what his face looks like.
10. For somebody to be truly religious he must briddle his tongue, or else his religion is in vain/he is deceiving himself.
11. James argues further that Abraham was justified by works when he was ready to offer his son Isaac. Thus he justified his faith by works.
12. Again, Rahab the harlot was also justified by her works when she protected the spies sent by Moses. She had faith in God and matched it by saving the spies.
13. These two people expressed their faiths by their deeds.
14. Faith and works are essential to each other just as the body and the spirit.
15. Thus, just as the body apart from the spirit is dead, faith apart from works is dead.

In the demands of the questions from Part B, ways Christians can demonstrate their faith in works includes:

1. Respecting themselves and others/Living chaste life.
2. Offering selfless service to the society/country/charity.
3. Loving one another/being hospitable.
4. Performing one’s civic responsibilities and religious obligations.
5. Being patient, submissive, polite, honest/practising Christian virtues.
6. Taking part in church activities.
