Observation

This question was popular as more candidates attempted it. In Part A, the students were required to narrate the dreams of Pharaoh. Candidates who were familiar with this story were able to answer the question correctly both in part A and part B thereby, scoring high marks in this question. However, it was discovered that some candidates wasted valuable time writing off points by discussing about the entire life of Joseph starting from how he was sold into slavery by his brothers, thereby omitting important points. Candidates were expected to start out their narration as listed below;

1. Pharaoh dreamed of seven sleek and fat cows coming out of the Nile.
2. He saw seven other slim and thin cows.
3. The thin and slim cows swallowed the fat ones.
4. He dreamed again of seven plump and good ears of corn growing in one stalk.
5. Another seven thin and blighted ears came up also.
6. Again, the seven thin and blighted ears of corn ate up the good and plump ones.
7. When he woke up, he was troubled and afraid.
8. So he summoned all the magicians and wise men of Egypt.
9. But his magicians and wise men could not interpret the dreams.
10. Then the chief butler remembered how Joseph had effectively interpreted his dreams in prison.
11. The chief butler recommended Joseph to Pharaoh.
12. Pharaoh narrated his dreams to Joseph.
13. Joseph emphasized that it is only God who gives favourable answer/interpretation to dreams.

In Section B, candidates performed above average in that, they were able to draw their answers from the story they had earlier narrated in Section A. The points candidates were expected to have written included:

1. Pharaoh made Joseph the leader of his household and people.
2. Joseph was appointed next in rank to Pharaoh/governor.
3. Joseph was honoured with a royal marriage.
4. He used his position to prepare adequately for famine.
5. He used his position to save his people during the period of famine.
6. He used his position to settle his family in Egypt during the period of famine.
