General Comments

The standard of the paper has improved due to the introduction of redox titration. It was reported that the standard of the paper compared favourably with those of the previous years. The questions were within the scope of the examination syllabus. The rubrics were clear and unambiguous. The marking scheme was detailed, comprehensive, clear and fair to all candidates.
The raw mean score of 18.0 and standard deviation of 8.12 indicated that the performance of the candidates was worse than Private Candidates 2016, with a raw mean score of 19.0 and standard deviation of 6.71 candidates sat for the paper.
