Observation
A large percentage of candidates performed above average in this question. In the (a) part, candidates performed credibly well as they were able to define responsible parenthood. The challenge candidates encountered was in the (b) part as they could barely state roles of responsible parents. Points expected of candidates include;
RESPONSIBLE PARENTHOOD
Responsible parenthood refers to the task of ensuring the proper upbringing of children by parents/guardians in order to make them responsible members of the society.
It is also a process of child bearing and nurturing by parents and the ability to cater for the needs of the children and the family at large.
ROLES OF RESPONSIBLE PARENTS
- They provide basic necessities of life such as food, clothing and shelter for the family.
- They give both formal and informal education to their children /wards.
- They inculcate high moral standards and religious values such as honesty, hard work, self-esteem, etc to the children.
- They ensure safety/protection of their children.
- They manage social conflicts and other inter personal crisis in the family.
- They provide financial support to their children and other members of the family.
- They provide emotional/psychological support to their children/wards.
