Observation
This question was equally popular as it attracted a vast percentage of the candidates. To majority of those who attempted it, their performances were incredible. Additional points candidates could have given are
(a) Control Measures for HIV/AIDS
- Providing access to treatment of opportunistic infections
- Providing programmes that reduce both the short and long-term physical, psychological and social harm HIV/AIDS causes in adults and children
- Active testing policy for HIV/promotion of Voluntary Counselling& Testing (VCT)
- Promulgation of laws that protect the human rights of people infected with HIV
- Establishment/operation of integrated health services to provide assistance/treatment for HIV infected people
- Promulgation of laws against stigmatization of People Living With HIV/AIDS
- Reduction of poverty
(b) Preventive Measures for HIV/AIDS
- Married couples should restrict themselves to their partners.
- Encouragement of the use of condoms to prevent them from being infected with AIDS
- Patients should be properly screened before hospital admission.
- Constant testing of pregnant women against infection
- AIDS victims and non-victims should be properly counselled not to spread the deadly disease
- Surgical instruments must be well sterilized immediately after use
- Hospital staff, such as nurse, doctors and ward maids should always wear gloves while in contact with patient body fluid.
- Syringe and needles should be well sterilized before usage
