Some of the weaknesses observed in the candidates’ scripts were:
- Poor preparation for the examination. This was observed in candidates’ poor responses to questions, showing inadequate knowledge of the subject. For example, candidates performed very poorly in questions 6 and 8 which were in Marketing and Business calculation and Occupation topics.
- Poor knowledge of examination techniques, some candidates still answered two questions or more on the same page, making the marking difficult.
- Poor mastery of the English Language, this affected the interpretation of the questions and the expression of points.
- Insufficient of the subject as a result they could not satisfactorily attempt question as factors to be considered before …… a retail business, distribution between trade….. and cash discount which were to be …… and questions 1(b) and 3 (a) respectively.
- Few candidates attempted questions on calculations in which they did not do well.
- The candidates should endeavour to learn the rules of English grammar so as to enable them express their points clearly;
- The candidates should be encouraged to study standard and comprehensive text book in their preparation for the examination rather than relying on key-points;
- The teachers should thorough teach the candidates the aspect of the syllabus that deals with calculation of profit and capital.
- Government should endeavour to recruit qualified Business Education graduates to teach the subject.
