Most candidates did not attempt this question. Some who did listed the importance of marketing to a business without putting it in sentence form. For 5b, being an application question, some candidates could not apply their knowledge of promotion to answer the question. Other candidates went on to write on advertising and its importance.

- Profit – Marketing makes it possible for businesses to achieve their objective of profitability.
- It serves as a link between production and consumption. This is done by making it possible for goods produced to be moved from the producer to where they are needed through various channels of distribution.
- Creates awareness – It makes it possible for consumers to be aware of the existence of products. This leads to increased sales.
- Enhances consumers’ satisfaction – This is done by providing the right product, at the right place, at the right time and at the right price following market research results.
- Survival - Marketing strategies help a business to survive especially during the time of stiff competition and economic meltdown.
- Marketing activities helps to increase sales of a company’s product.

- Coupons – This is the ticket offered to buyers to be used as discount against next purchase.
- Gifts – These are promotional items offered free to buyers of products.
- Raffle draws – This is a way of encouraging patronage by promising gifts that could be won through draws.
- After sales services – This is rendered to customers to encourage continuous patronage.
- Premium offer – This involves increasing the quantity of product for sale at the old package price.
- Party selling – The company could finance parties with a view to using the opportunity to sell its products.
- Contest – Customers can be invited to participate in a contest using the products as ticket to encourage sales of its products.
