(a) Candidates’ Weaknesses
In spite of repeated remarks in earlier reports, candidates still found it difficult applying basic knowledge to the solution of problems. Question 10 on Control Systems which bordered on classification of some devices as examples of either ‘closed loop’ or ‘open loop’ system was incorrectly answered.
Some recall questions e.g. Questions 4a and 4b were answered wrongly by majority of the candidates that attempted them.
(b) Suggested Remedy
The indicated remedies are as follow:
- Candidates should cover all topics specified in the syllabus during preparations for examinations.
- Instructors should be well-advised to ensure that candidates thoroughly understand basic theory.
- Candidates should solve as many practice questions as possible in the course of preparations.
