The standard of the paper is about the same as those of previous years. The
composition tests were on topics that are within the experience of senior
secondary school leavers - an informal letter to a sister, an official letter to the
Minister of Transport, an article for publication in a national newspaper, a debate
and story writing.
The comprehension topics were quite simple, and dealt with very familiar
subjects.
The summary passage was easy. It required just careful reading to
pick out the information for answering the questions.
However, Candidates' performance was poorer than those of previous years.
CONCLUSION
Teachers should pay attention to the teaching of the skills of writing,
comprehension and summary. This will help students to acquire the needed
skills to interpret questions and answer them correctly.
