Observation

The passage was quite interesting and offered a familiar subject matter.  Nevertheless, some candidates did not demonstrate an understanding of the passage. They resorted to lifting portions of the passage as answers. Also, many candidates did not answer the questions on grammatical name and function correctly.

The vocabulary test, Question 6(i) looks for synonyms that can replace the set word perfectly in the passage. Thus, if a verb is set, the suggested synonym must be a verb. If the set verb is in the past tense, the suggested replacement must be in the past. Other parts of speech are treated in the same way.
