In question 1a, candidates were expected to list and explain the methods of making cake and to list dishes that can be made from short crust pastry. Candidates were able list and explain the various methods of making cakes such as creaming, rubbing in, whisking and melting methods. However, candidates wrote their answers with several shortened words such as creamy instead of creaming, rub instead of rubbing in, fluf instead of fluffy and creams in method instead of creaming method. In 1 (c), some candidates correctly listed the dishes that can be made from short crust pastry such as rolls, biscuits, flans while others listed wrong answers such bread and cake.
