Candidate's Weakness
The Chief Examiners reported the following as some of the weaknesses of the candidates:
- commission of grammatical mistakes;
- Poor understanding of the demands of the question;
- Writing transliterated French;
- Violation of rubric;
- Writing out of context.
Suggested Remedies
To remedy the observed weaknesses, the Chief Examiners suggested that:
- Candidates should read and understand well the instructions and the demands of a paper before attempting it.
- Teachers of French should place a lot of emphasis on the teaching of grammar.
- Students should be encouraged to read French stories, magazines and journals so as to improve their vocabulary.
- Candidates should acquire bilingual and French dictionaries
- Teachers should introduce rewards to encourage hard work among students
- Government should furnish the school and public libraries with relevant French materials
