(2) You may use any of the ordinary hand tools but the use of glue, glass-paper, files, rasps and scrapers is not allowed.
(3) Dimensions which are omitted from the drawing are left to your own discretion.
(4) If you make any mistake, work as near to the drawing as possible.
Additional materials will not be supplied.
- Print your name and index number clearly on each piece of wood and assemble your work before handing it over to the supervisor.
(6) Each candidate is expected to submit one workpiece at the end of the examination.
Observation
This was the only question. It requires the candidates to interpret the working drawing and make use of various hand tools in constructing the magazine rack, using the given specification.
Candidates performed averagely well but some could not complete the work within the given time.
Candidates were expected to produce the magazine rack carrying out the following activities:
(a) construct pinned joint;
(b) construct dovetail joint;
(c) construct mortise and tenon joint;
(d) drilling and pinning;
(e) shape work
(f) dress the work neatly;
(g) assemble the work.
