Candidates' Weakness
The Chief Examiner observed that the candidates’ showed weaknesses in the following areas:
- Pre – mature approximation;
- Omission of units;
- Inadequate understanding of Mechanics;
- Inadequate rudimentary knowledge of functions especially to find the domain;
- Inadequate understanding of simplification of combination;
- Non – adherence to rubrics;
- Poor interpretation of question;
- Inability to plot scatter diagram and draw out line of best fit;
- Inadequate understanding of Differentiation and Integration.

SUGGESTED REMEDIES
The Chief Examiner suggested that to overcome the challenges stated, the following remedies should be considered:
- Candidates should be encouraged to read questions carefully and understand their requirements before attempting them
- Candidates are encouraged to cover the syllabus while preparing for examination so as to enhance performance.
- Parents/Guidance should provide their children/wards with modern textbooks.
- Teachers should pay more attention on use of diagrams and illustrations.
- Constant practice by the candidates’ will enhance performance.
- Candidates should devote more time to learning necessary principles, as well as solving mathematical problems
- Teachers should be more committed and try to cover all the topics in the syllabus.
- Schools need to improve their libraries with sufficient textbooks.
- Teachers should give more worked problems during class lessons.
