This was a very popular question among the candidates. Their performance was just fair because many candidates who merely listed the answers lost precious marks. Question 1(a) and 1(b) were properly answered by most of the candidates that attempted the question. However, some of the candidates could not suggest correct solutions to the problems they identified in (1) (b). The possible solutions to the problems of urbanization include:
- construction of housing estates/satellite towns by government
- establishment of diversified means of transportation
- creation of industries to offer employment opportunities
- legislation on sanitation and enforcement
- provision of more social amenities
- planned migration out of congested urban centres
- improved security
- government empowerment of the citizens through poverty alleviation programmes
- better waste management practices
- increase in government budgetary provisions
- introduction of modern farming techniques
- provision of more social amenities
