(a) List any four properties of light.
(b) State any four functions of light in photography.
(c) Describe artificial light in photography.
A straight forward question which required the candidates to list state and describe, properties, functions and artificial light respectively. It was well attempted by the candidates. The performance was poor. The candidates were expected to provide the following answers to the question:
(a)
- - Reflection.
- Absorption.
- Transmission.
- Refraction.
- Dispersion/scattering/polarization.
- Interference.
- Diffraction.
- Travels in a straight line
(b)
- Light enables photography to exist.
- Light is recorded/captured as images on film or through the sensor of a digital camera/light is needed for image formation (creation)
- Light determines mood in photography especially in black and white.
- Light is used to transfer image from a negative unto a photo paper.
- Light determines the quality of photographic image.
- Light illuminates the subject (object)/helps photographer see what to take.
- Light is used for aesthetic effect.
(c)
A man-made light created to provide illumination in photography/light used in the absence of natural light in photography.
- It can be used for indoor or outdoor picture taking.
- Artificial lights can be easily controlled.
- Examples of artificial light include flash, streetlight, florescent, tungsten, LED halogen, oil lamp and candle light.
