- membership of many international organizations;
- military alliance entered into with powerful nations by some West African nations;
- can affect their foreign policy objectives;
- lack of commitment on the part of some West African leaders;
- geographical location of some West African countries could affect their foreign policy objectives e.g. land locked countries.
