Most of the candidates answered this question. However, their performance was poor because candidates based their answers on the 1999 constitution which was not what the question required.
Candidates were expected to provide the following answers to score maximum marks in
this question.
- the President was the Chief Executive of the country who performed the day-today running of the country;
- he inaugurated the National assembly at the beginning of each session;
- he assented to bills duly passed by the National assembly into laws;
- he appointed key officials of government;
- he represented the country at international conferences like the UNO, AU, Commonwealth, ECOWAS, etc.;
- he performed ceremonial functions;
- he exercised prerogative of mercy i.e. he could pardon convicted persons or those found guilty of treason;
- he signed treaties with other countries on behalf of the country;
- he formulated policies for good governance;
- he prepared and presented the annual budget to the National assembly for approval.
