Discuss the economic and social importance of blacksmithing among  the peoples of Nigeria.

Observation

This was another popular question and the candidates demonstrated good knowledge of the economic and social importance of blacksmithing in Nigeria.

   The good candidates discussed the following points:

(i) blacksmithing was a  profession and means of livelihood for many people;
(ii) there were traders who bought iron products from blacksmiths and sold them to the public;
(iii) iron bars and bracelets made by blacksmiths were used as currency;
(iv) most ethnic groups had a patron deity for blacksmithing;
(v) the workshop of blacksmith was a revered place where people went to swear an oath;
(vi) iron products were used for entertainment e.g. gongs, bells, etc.
