The candidates showed poor knowledge of slave markets and the slave dealers. Slave markets were among others; Bende, Arochukwu, Badagry, Lagos, Oron, Gwato, etc, while some of the slave dealers included: King Kosoko of Lagos, King Archibong 1 of Calabar, Oba Ovorarowen of Benin, Iyalode of Ibadan, etc.
The (b) part was grossly misinterpreted as many candidates emphasized the suppression of Atlantic slave trade.
Some of the factors that made it difficult to suppress the trans-Atlantic slave trade were:
(i) activities of other nations like Portugal, Brazil, etc;
(ii)
lack of effective way or means of patrolling the sea;
(iii)
attitude of some Nigerian chiefs and middle men who had invested heavily in the trade;
(iv)
it was more lucrative and easier than farming, etc.
