Identify any five features of the Tiv socio-political organization in pre-colonial Nigeria.
Observation
This question was unpopular among the candidates. A good number of those that answered didn’t do so well. However, candidates were expected to mention the under listed points.
(i) The Tiv community was centred on a secret society known as MbaTsav.
(ii) The MbaTsav made laws for the land.
(iii) They also enforced laws and punished offenders.
(iv) TheTiv had a spokeman known as the Tee.
(v) The Tee controlled legislative and spiritual powers.
(vi) There was the ShagbaOr known as man of substance and wealth who assisted in maintenance of law and order.
(vii) Both the Tee and ShagbaOr were elected into Council of Elders.
(viii) They practiced age-grade system.
(ix) They practiced segmentary unit system.
