Candidates’ weaknesses were observed in these areas:
(1) inability to write the required length of 300 words;
(2) ignorance on the literature set books;
(3) illegible handwritings;
(4) wrong spelling;
(5) inability to showcase the proper procedure in speech writing.
SUGGESTED REMEDIES
- Teachers should ensure that students adopt the rules and guidelines for Igbo orthography writing.
- Teachers should encourage the students to buy the recommended literature texts to enable them prepare well for the examination.
- Teachers should encourage the students to express themselves in sound idiomatic Igbo when conversing.
- Only qualified teachers should be employed to teach the subject.
- Schools should always organize seminars for both teachers and students.
- Candidates should make effort to cover the syllabus.
