Candidate's Weakness
Weaknesses were observed in these areas:
(1) wrong spellings;
(2) inability to use diacritics correctly;
(3) illegible handwriting;
(4) inability to write the required length in the essay test
(5) inability to explain the proverb given as an essay topic.
Suggested Remedies
- Parents should endeavour to buy set books for their children/wards.
- Government should organize seminars for Igbo teachers from time to time to enable them acquire more knowledge in the subject area.
- Teachers should ensure that candidates learn the rules and guidelines for Igbo orthography.
- Teachers should drill their candidates on proper punctuation in writing direct and indirect speeches, the use of diacritics and tone marks.
- The school libraries should be equipped with relevant Igbo grammar and literature books.
- Teachers should lay special emphasis on the proper way of comparison as may be required from the students.
- Candidates should also cultivate good reading and writing habits to improve on their writing skills.
- Teachers should endeavour to cover the current WAEC syllabus before the examination.
