This historical question on Jihảd in West Africa was answered by a few candidates who could not even grasp the import of the question very well. Instead of writing on similar aims of all reformers in West Africa, they concentrated majorly on the Jihảd of ‘Uthman Dan-Fodio in 1804. Some of the points they lost sight of include the fact that all the reformers aimed at getting rid of syncretic practices introduced into Islam; enlightening Muslims at all levels; establishing an Islamic state and winning converts into the fold of Islam.
