“man aḥadatha fi amirna hadha...”
Observation
This was one of the popular question. Most of the candidates, who attempted it performed very well as a result of its popularity. Candidates were expected to complete the Hadith, translate it and make some comment of it. Thus:
a. Completion:
“…. mālaysa‘alayhi ’amrināfahuwaraddun”
Or
“…. mālaysaminhuamrināfahuwaraddun”
(RawāhuBukhārīwaMuslim)
b.Translation:
“Whoever introduces into this affair of ours something that does not belong to it, is reprobate, or shall have it rejected”.
(Transmitted by Bukhārī and Muslim)
c. Comments:
- The Hadith has its theme centred on condemnation of innovation into religious matters.
- By this, we mean anything which may be introduced into the tenets of Islam shall be rejected.
- The Hadith signifies that Islam is a complete religion (Q.4:3).
- The Hadith signifies that Islam requires neither addition nor subtraction.
- Scientific discoveries that enhance the progress of the society are not condemnable in Islam.
- The primary sources of Islam i.e. (Qur’ān and Sunnah) have not left anything untouched.
- Invention towards dissemination of knowledge should not be considered as wrong innovation.
- Heretical innovation leads to going astray.
- Any deed introduced into Islam which is not part of it will be rejected by Allah.
- The quotation serves as a limitation into any newly introduced religious matter.
- Any innovation into the religious matter distorts the pristine teachings of Islam.
